Kemiri Nuts
(Candle Nuts, Buah Keras)
Kemiri Nuts are originally from Malaysia and Indonesia. The latin name of the tree is Aleurites Moluccana. Because of their high oil content, Kemiri Nuts are also named Candle Nuts. In Malaysia they are named Buah Keras.
Because of their high fat content, Kemiri Nuts are also named Candle Nuts.
Flavour
The taste of Kemiri Nuts is close to Macadamia or Cashew Nuts, which can be used as a substitute.
Culinary Use
Kemiri Nuts are used to thicken Indonesian and Malaysian Sauces.
Fresh Kemiri Nuts are slightly toxic, therefore they have to be cooked before they can be eaten safely. (Do not use fresh Kemiri Nuts in salads!)
