The Spicy Mexican Cousin of the Cuba Libre

This Tequila longdrink is really the Mexican cousin of the Cuba Libre. And just as good. The distinct taste of tequila gives the Caballo Negro a special twist. Mejico Libre!

The Caballo Negro is the favourite longdrink of my old buddy Chris. I have the "honour" of having introduced him to tequila when I brought home a few bottles of Don Julio from one of my trips to Mexico.

Chris fell in love with tequila, and the rest is history...

Caballo Negro Ingredients

For this Caballo Negro recipe you will need the following ingredients:

*) For clarity, by "lime" we mean that round green type of lemon. (if you can't get limes, use lemons instead. The taste is not the same, but it's better than nothing!)

Preparation

Making a proper Caballo Negro longdrink goes as follows:

• Pour tequila into long drink glass;
• Wash lime, cut in half, cut one half into 4 wedges;
• Add 3 lime wedges to the tequila in the glass, squeeze (using the back of a spoon or a small rolling pin);
• Add ice cubes, fill with coke, stir lightly;
• Use 4th lime wedge to decorate rim of glass.

A Note about Tequila:

I know that some people consider tequila an inferior drink, driving men crazy, and causing gruesome hangovers.

This wrong image is probably caused by cheap "bulk tequila" that has nothing to do with the noble and exquisite drink that was developed with patience, hard labour, professional pride and tradition - and lots of love and passion - in the states of Jalisco and Tamaulipas in Mexico.

My advise is simple:

Stay away from cheap tequila.

Buy the best available tequila you can afford.

And most important:

Enjoy, but don't drink more than you can handle!
